Edge computing with 5G creates tremendous opportunities in every industry. It brings computation and data storage closer to where data is generated, enabling better data control, reduced costs, faster insights and actions, and continuous operations. 5G also offers telcos an opportunity to deliver services to enterprise customers.  What must Telcos do to make a success of Edge computing?

Developers are focused on making new services easy to deploy and operate. They have adopted container platforms, like Kubernetes, that enable automation and scalability. Telcos must offer an open, cloud-native, platform for edge computing - one with a large ecosystem of developers, partners and tooling. In addition, Telcos must also create an Edge Factory - a dedicated program to enable and deploy innovative new edge services.

Telcos need the best of both worlds. 1) An open platform, to attract a broad ecosystem of developers, using cloud native technology such as containers and CI/CD. 2) Open network interfaces, to avoid lock-in, and connect.

This session will cover: 
  • High-level overview of 5G, Edge and key use casesArchitecture overview, including how network and applications workloads will be deployed and managed at the edge and core network. Network workloads considered will include vRAN, 5G core and other essential 5G networks functions.  Application workloads will include different industry workloads built on AI and Analytics.
  • Demonstration and details of an actual 5G implementation at edge covering key use cases, such as 5G network slicing with close loop automation to manage security and optimize network traffic at the network level with applications such as worker safety deployed at the edge 
  • Customer implementation examples, lessons learned and discussion of key challenges to be addressed to ensure a 5G journey at the edge is successful.
